The Value of our Values
The true test of values is living them
in difficult times. Since 1947, Swagelok Company has been dedicated to
doing the right thing with courage and character in good times and bad.
As a global organization, we embrace Corporate Social Responsibility in
dealings with our customers, our associates, our suppliers, our
neighborhoods, and society as a whole.
The culture at Swagelok is deeply rooted
in the values of integrity, respect for the individual, and commitment
to quality. We are also dedicated to becoming ever more focused on the
needs of our customers, on challenging conventional wisdom to innovate,
and improving by systematically doing things better. Visitors to
Swagelok facilities anywhere in the world first experience these values
when they step into our clean, well-lit plants. Laser focus on
industrial hygiene and safety provide the right environment for the
manufacture of our world class products.
Helping Customers With Leak-Tight Products and Effective Solutions
In the fluid systems industry, our
highly reliable valves, tube fittings and related products help
customers reduce or eliminate leaks, significantly reducing waste while
protecting people and the environment. Swagelok manufactures to the
highest standards and holds many certifications, such as ISO-9001,
METI/KHK, Lloyd’s Register, CRN, PED, and Chinese Compulsory
Certificates (CCC). We also encourage our engineers and scientists to
be active on key standard-setting industry boards.
Whether customers are wrestling with
fugitive emissions, climate change, nuclear safety, or energy
conservation, Swagelok is finding ways to help. Swagelok Company is a
leader in fugitive emissions compliance worldwide, with inherently
leak-tight products, stringent validation testing, and focus on customer
compliance needs. Concerns over climate change are triggering the
search for alternatives to gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum-based
vehicle fuels. Swagelok provides products and services to support the
design and production of natural gas vehicles, filling stations, and
hydrogen fuel cell technology.
We continue to invest in our nuclear
capabilities and offering. Involved in the nuclear industry since the
beginning, Swagelok has maintained a continuous ASME certification since
1981 and are adding new engineering talent to support the anticipated
growth in this industry. Swagelok Energy Advisors (SEA) is a new
service offered by Swagelok to help customers use less energy.
Specializing in the evaluation of steam, condensate, and compressed air
systems, SEA provides engineering, audits, project management, and
training programs focused on strengthening in-plant fluid system
assessments.
Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship at Home
Respect for the environment has always
been part of the Swagelok Company culture and operating principles. And
today, sustainability discussions are becoming an increasing part of
our strategic thinking and continuous improvement approach. Swagelok is
committed to protecting and preserving the environment for our
associates, our customers and the communities around us. In keeping
with this commitment, we continually strive to reduce our carbon
foot-print. We regularly seek opportunities to reduce energy usage and
improve resource efficiency including recent HVAC upgrades, lighting
replacements, and water recycling system implementations in our plants.
The Environmental Management System at
Swagelok’s largest facility is certified to ISO-14001:2004. We recycle
over a million pounds of oil, paper, cardboard and wood products each
year. Monthly, we recycle about 1.5 million pounds of scrap metal. We
reprocess and reuse our machine cutting oil and have an aggressive
preventive maintenance program for machines to keep utilization rates up
while reducing leaks, scrap materials, and waste products. Associates
are encouraged to propose conservation and recycling ideas, many of
which are implemented.
Good Corporate Citizenship
We continue to carry on the work of our
founder, Fred A. Lennon, who was one of the most generous
philanthropists in the history of the industrial era. As an example,
members of our senior management team participate on the boards of more
than 70 non-profit agencies around the world. We regularly schedule
team-building events, including volunteer services, for local charities
and many associates volunteer personal time for neighborhood causes or
to help with community projects. Combined, the Swagelok Foundation and
the F.A. Lennon Foundation donate nearly $3.5 million each year.
